HP660LX

For more than six months, the HP620LX was the top of the HPC tree; and by that I mean it was the biggest and had the most features, not necessarily the best. But Hewlett-Packard have released a new model the HP660LX, that supplants it but is available in the USA only.

The HP660LX appears identical to the HP620LX, but with two additional features: it has 32 Mb of RAM over the 16 Mb of the HP620LX, and is supplied with a 56K modem card. I would imagine that approvals for the latter is the main reason why it isn't available outside of North America, although personal imports by high-end users will no doubt take care of that.

Released at the same time is a package that allows you to synchronise a REX (see issues 40 and 43), directly with an HP 600 or 300 series CE machine. Thus makes a lot of sense for the larger CE models such as the HP620LX, which are not at all convenient to carry around with you in a pocket, and fits in well with the marketing message put out by Starfish and Franklin about the REX, that it is sold as a complement to existing CE and Palm owners to reference read-only information.
