Surefall Druid
1 April 2003
Starting out
I'd start by reading the Casters Realm creation guide, and looking at the maps for Surefall Glade, Qeynos Hills and North/South Qeynos on eqatlas. Then choose a race; if you are starting from Surefall, your two choices are human, or half-elf. Both can make good druids, although the half-elf starts out with lower wisdom, and the human has difficulty seeing in the dark. This means that a half elf will need to work harder and gets more wisdom items earlier; whereas a human will have a little trouble at first getting out of Surefall Glades into Qeynos Hills! Put as much as you can into wisdom, and the rest into agility (recommendation from Casters Realm). Otherwise, don't worry too much about starting statistics; no choice is absolutely disasterous, and any choice at all will be meaningless at very high levels with typical equipment. You can choose a deity, Tunare or Karana for humans, but to start in Surefall it must be Karana for half elves. It is generally thought by druids that there is a minor benefit to choosing Tunare, because of a few special items you may get later in the game that are Tunare only.
Read then hand in your guild note, equip the starter tunic and candle (this frees up a general inventory slot). Talk to Salmekia next to Te'Anara, and get the container for the newbie quests. Next cast Skin Like Wood on yourself - this should now always be on you.
There are two quests starting from Surefall that can be done at level 1, and at that level give significant experience. In the ranger guild building, on the lake, there is a bard who wants a letter delivered to the bard guild in South Qeynos; and Vesteri Nomanoi, in the Jaggedpine Treefolk building, wants a wooden statue collected from Nesiff, also in South Qeynos, and conveniently near the bard guild.
Once in South Qeynos, talk to people at the bards guild. The bard reports quest can be done without leaving South Qeynos, and gives plenty of easy experience.
