PalmOS 3 Upgrade for PalmPilot
2 Mb Upgrade for PalmPilots
The upgrade card for Pilot and PalmPilot models has been officially available for several months, but is still in short supply. I was fortunate enough to locate one for $130 in New York recently. The package includes a 2 Mb memory card, replacement memory cover (as the infrared unit means that the original cover will no longer fit), CD with Palm Desktop 3.0, software manual, and a velcro strip. The latter is a very thoughtful addition to attach to your memory door in case you used an add-on leather case with your Pilot. The memory card gives you 2 Mb of available RAM storage, but also includes flash memory to hold the OS (PalmOS version 3.0 is preinstalled), which should allow future upgrades to go more smoothly. With this upgrade installed, the only differences between an original Pilot 1000 and a Palm III are the casing shape, which is a little less compact, and the lack of a backlight. The hard cover mentioned above makes a reasonable substitute for the flip up cover of the Palm III, making the upgrade path for an original Pilot the best in the industry. |
